Update of Karen Aus Photo Using Nik Filters
I was working through the list of Nik filters in the Color Efex 3.0 collection and came upon the Tonal Contrast filter that enables separate control over highlight contrast, midtone contrast, and shadow contrast. I used this filter to adjust contrast in the photos below of Karen Aus and Lina.

Nadia Atcha provided her designs for this shoot with Karen. This was an opportunity to put my new boom stand to use. The first shot uses a 7″ reflector with a 40 degree grid. In the other two shots the key light is a beauty dish with 40 degree grid and the fill light is a medium softbox with grid. Hair and makeup by Kim Reyes.

I photographed Julie at a fashion show last weekend and invited her to my studio. This shot uses hi ISO (500), wide aperture (f2.0), and back lighting from an early afternoon sun as the primary light source.
Mahsa at Glenview Manshion
The arrival of spring blossoms signaled that it was time to grab my gear and head for Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD. I packed my still new Pocket Wizard Mini TT1 and Mini Flex 5’s for their first outdoor workout. The gear performed admirably.
Catwalk for a Cause
I photographed the Delta Sigma Theta Catwalk for a Cause show at the Waterford in Springfield, VA. Show was produced by Evy Edwards of Kustom Events. Used my new mini Pocket Wizards with two off camera flashes.
Paulina Kosturos
I photographed Paulina at the February 2011 DC Fashion Week show. We decided to do a photo shoot March 12. Several of the photos were my first attempts processed with Portraiture software. Makeup is by Mac Tyson’s Corner. Wardrobe styling, hair, and additional makeup by Paulina.
Valerie N
Valerie was interested in adding head shots to her port. I wanted to help her and also try out different lighting scenarios with a willing subject. We did two makeup and hair looks and used 3 or 4 different light setups. Below is a natural beauty look using clamshell lighting. Makeup by Valerie Thighlman.
Urban Night Shoot
Last summer my partner LeRoy Armstead and I wanted to do an urban night shoot. After scouting out a number of locales in downtown DC we settled on a site in Chevy Chase, MD. The retail strip along Wisconsin Avenue near Western Avenue offered many rich backdrops and easy accessibility. Shoot was done in July 2010. I finally got around to editing the images during a recent lull in activity. Model is Isabella. Makeup by Shana Janelle.
Noreen Hughes at Rockville Town Center
I met Noreen last winter at the February 2010 DC Fashion Week where she modeled. We met up again when she responded to a casting call I posted on Model Mayhem. Priya Sethi was the make up artist and Noreen provided wardrobe.
